Yes. We repair pool leaks in Benissa, Moraira and Altea — structural cracks, failing grout and tile joints, leaking skimmers and returns, underground pipework and equipment connections.
The part that matters is finding where the water is actually going before anything is repaired. The visible symptom is very often not the source.
The first test: does it get worse with the pump running?
Before anyone drains anything or opens anything, this one observation narrows the search enormously. Watch the level over a couple of days with the pump running normally, then over a couple of days with it off.
Loses more with the pump ON
The pipework is under pressure when the pump runs, so a leak on the pressure side opens up.
Points at return lines, fittings, or the plumbing between the equipment and the pool.
Loses the same, or more, with the pump OFF
Suggests the shell, the finish, a tile joint, a skimmer, or the suction side.
A steady loss regardless of the pump usually means structure rather than plumbing.
Neither result is a diagnosis, but it changes where a technician starts looking — and it is something you can do yourself while you wait, at no cost.
First, rule out evaporation. On this coast a pool loses a real amount of water to evaporation in summer, and plenty of “leaks” turn out to be a hot fortnight. Pool losing water? Evaporation or leak? explains how to tell the difference before you call anyone.

What types of pool leak can be repaired?
A leak can start in the shell, the finish, the fittings, the pipework, the tile joints or the connected equipment. The repairable causes:
- structural cracks in the shell;
- failing grout or tile joints;
- leaking skimmers, returns or built-in fittings;
- pipework or underground plumbing leaks;
- leaks at pumps, valves or filtration equipment;
- surface deterioration that has compromised the waterproofing or the finish.
Depending on which it is, the work can be crack repair, jointoiement, remplacement de carreaux ou réparation sous-marine — the last of which avoids emptying the pool at all.
When does it need a professional?
Worth watching for a week
- a small drop during a hot spell;
- no damp ground anywhere;
- nothing visibly cracked or loose;
- the level steadies once the weather turns.
Call someone
- the level drops faster than evaporation explains;
- you are topping up noticeably more often;
- damp ground near the pool or the equipment;
- visible cracks, loose tiles or failing joints;
- the loss changes when the pump runs;
- a leak that keeps coming back after being repaired;
- moisture or movement in the surrounding area;
- no identifiable source at all.
Where the source is not obvious, détection de fuites dans les piscines comes first. Opening up a terrace or breaking into a shell on a guess is how a small repair becomes a large one.
Why local repair matters here
Pools in Benissa, Moraira and Altea sit mostly at villas, holiday homes, rentals and second residences — which means a lot of them lose water with nobody watching the level.
That is the difference between a pool leak here and a pool leak at a permanently occupied house. In an occupied home somebody notices the top-up hose running more often. In a property used six weeks a year, the leak runs through a whole season: the water bill, the chemistry, the ground around the shell and whatever is buried in it all take the consequences before anyone looks.
A local team can assess the actual condition of the pool and say which repair fits, rather than fitting the repair to whatever was easiest to reach.
What happens once the leak is found
It depends on where the water is escaping and how far the damage has gone.
A focused repair
One crack, one fitting, one joint, with everything around it sound.
Often possible without emptying the pool.
Broader work
Several areas affected, or the structure or the plumbing involved.
Worth doing properly once rather than patching the same pool every season.
If the pool has reached the point where each summer brings another repair, the honest answer is usually the second column. Our swimming pool repairs et piscines pages cover the wider options.
