However there is a significant upheaval involved
and for this reason and also on the question of cost effectiveness it
is only suitable for new construction or when a significant reform is
planned Installation time approx. one week One of the down sides is that
the system is less controllable with heat taking longer to emit through
the floor.
Radiators ( Aluminium or
Steel)
Fired most often by oil or gas. They provide
a very instant heat that is easily controlled. Installation time is approximately
one week for an average system with minimal upheaval if ready access underneath
the house for pipe work. There are a number of different styles available to choose
from.
Should I have a Heat pump installed
This can sometimes provide the cheapest alternative for
heating a small house or apartment. No need for a gas or oil installation
and contrary to public opinion, it is a very cost effective form of heating.
A quick installation 1 to 2 days with minimal upheaval. It also gives
the benefits of cooling during the summer months. Always check that the power supply to your
property is able to cope with the increased demand from the heat pump
unit Call us for details.
Ease of use
All systems can be programmed to turn on & turn off when
required and all can function on a wall thermostat as well as individual
thermostats for a fully automated system.
The Legalities?
All gas installations require a one off initial
inspection from a representative of the distributing gas company e.g..
Repsol, Cepsa, BP. The inspector issues a certificate to state that the
installation complies with regulations as decreed by Ministry of Industry
For Large Propane or gas
tank installation the certificate must be presented to the Ministry of Industry
before gas bottles will be supplied to the property by the gas supplier.
No such inspections are required at present for oil installations of less
than 1000Lt.
When a Central Heating system is installed
and is fired by large gas bottles or gas tank then a Heating "Memoria"
must be submitted to the Ministry of Industry.
A Heating Memoria is a detailed report of your individual heating system
with radiator outputs & sitings sketched onto a plan of the property and
also appliance outputs and consumption.
Did
you know?
A Heating Memoria must be presented in the
Ministry of Industry for every central heating installation whether gas
or oil fired.
If you have an existing heating system running on oil, be warned. For
all oil systems this requirement is now to be actively enforced and this
winter you will be obliged to show your oil supplier evidence that a heating
Memoria for your property has been registered with the Ministry of Industry
before they will deliver.
Maintenance.
All systems require a certain degree of maintenance.
Gas Tanks. The consumer is obliged by law to have an annual maintenance
contract with an authorised gas tank installer.
The tank should be checked annually by the installer and then every four
years by the Ministry of Industry. The maintenance charge is an additional
cost that must be considered.
Heat pumps require little maintenance. However
don´t forget to clean your filters from time to time to ensure that the
unit is running to maximum efficiency.
Gas bottles, large & small.
Gas installations are subject to a five yearly inspection
which can be carried out by any authorised installer, who will then
issue a certificate to be presented to the supplying gas office.
How do I know if it is a authorised installer?
All installers should carry a Identity card with their photograph that
is stamped & issued by the ministry of industry.
